There isn't much on Mapillary, because it's not a big waterway - here is an example where it runs past and under footways - https://www.mapillary.com/app/?pKey=1524605824731824&focus=photo Developed areas are like that in my experience.

view this post on Zulip HellMap (Dec 21 2023 at 19:11):

I didn't really take any pictures of it before, because it wasn't particularly remarkable. But I have a photo from it's widest location (as far as I know, excluding the #1 photo above, which is a pond/depression) - this is the same location as #2 but from the other side (same ducks lol). You can see the slopes, which are human-made when this was originally dug/expanded. If you turn around, it turns into a small culvert under A6.

Also, I would be careful judging these after the major snowmelt. I know these sections in photos above are relatively wide all year, but at this particular time, all ditches look like that

view this post on Zulip Stream maps (Dec 21 2023 at 19:21):

I've been there during summer aswell and it looks around the same , during it's earlier parts there's a more vissable difference but afterwards the difference is much smaller because some of the tributerys originate from lakes and vary very little depending on time of year

view this post on Zulip Stream maps (Dec 21 2023 at 19:21):

I don't know if i have any photos of this summer but I'll check

For a similar (in my opinion) comparison, https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/552902924 looks like this

This is one of the smaller tributerys in summer

view this post on Zulip Stream maps (Dec 21 2023 at 19:41):

I don't think i have anything besides that, i was there last summer but didn't take as many photos, but the water levels were about the same , coupled with the photo you sent the water levels appear to be the same

view this post on Zulip Stream maps (Dec 21 2023 at 19:43):

I still maintain my opinion that this is a small river.

view this post on Zulip Stream maps (Dec 21 2023 at 19:46):

The photos i sent also most likely represent the situation in spring and winter, so half of the year, btw the river doesn't freeze over during winter

Btw be careful around the area, there are large swan populations and they can be very agresive saw 2 today

Definitely stream, too small for a river. Btw, main source of water comes from https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/1131311549 which continues further to the botanical garden, not https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/1131311548. Last summer some parts, e.g., https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/112190696, were even completely dry.

The botanical garden stream is a tributery pf the river/stream

view this post on Zulip Stream maps (Dec 22 2023 at 05:50):

I visited the location last summer, the stream coming from the botanical garden after crossing through the lake was not dry, it had a small flow. A lot of the water comes from the lake next to it and thus it isn't dry at any time of year

view this post on Zulip Stream maps (Dec 22 2023 at 05:51):

It also doesn't come from the botanical garden

view this post on Zulip Stream maps (Dec 22 2023 at 05:53):

It comes from a confluence pf stream coming further out near purvs, and also that part was not dry during any time of year.

view this post on Zulip Stream maps (Dec 22 2023 at 05:54):

It passes through the botanical garden not comes from it

view this post on Zulip Stream maps (Dec 22 2023 at 05:55):

And i wouldn't consider the "botanical garden" stream a ditch, it appears on maps from the 1920s altho altered slightly, still is the same stream

In the case of this rivulet, its small size does not prevent it from being considered a river. These attributes are what make it a river and in whose course is woven time and geography.

  1. Its constancy over a long period of time despite changes shows that this stream is still a river. This river’s ability to survive through artificial channel modifications in the midst of human interference with natural features reflects the tenacity of most rivers.

2.Additionally, the complexity of the tributary network crisscrossing the area is an excellent indicator that a river exists. Though small, each streamlet and rill that contributes to these networks has a significant role towards defining hydrological systems thus emphasizing the multifaceted nature associated with river ecosystems.

3.In some parts, when there is pronounced narrowing and increased water visibility, then it could be seen as having aspects common to those found in many little rivers. It indicates their dynamic nature where they can change their course according to how land looks like.

4.Historical cartography also constitutes one of its convincing arguments for being termed as a river system, with it and it's tributerys being found on maps for as long as there have been maps in Salaspils.

Didn't convince me that this waterway could be a river. It's a stream.

By coming from the botanical garden I didn't mean source but an area above the confluence to indicate the correct direction. Corrected the relation accordingly as far as the stream has been drawn so far (parts through the ponds in the botanical garden are still missing).

i was there in real life and main source of water is not that coming from the botanical garden

Not true. It does. Images from today which clearly indicate from where most of the water come from:

Not sure about the part below the pond (not lake!), but above it it was dry. The last (this year's) summer was exceptionally dry, though.

I live nearby, thus it's easy to check.

Hi, sorry for late response I've been busy, in summer the stream you claim is the main source of water is a very minor tributery to it, and the stream/river i call the main source of water is not dry during summer, and from the times i went to it it wasn't dry, and from what i know the stream you call the main source of water is shallow and thus of course it will appear to be the larger stream, meanwhile the other stream/river is deeper, around 1.5m deep, and thus it won't appear as fast moving , so the stream you call "the main source of water" is "mostly dry" for around half the year, and i consider not the main source of water even after such rare rapid snowmelt not the main source of water and btw the river/stream isn't affected as much by snowmelt because it passes under ground for a large part of it's course before receiving the tributery. And btw i believe this stream/river is a small river but if the community has decided against it then fine, to me this river is simmilar to nearby rivers like the Pkyurga.
