Tā ir lieta, kura OSM kopienā ir apspriesta regulāri, piem.:

Papildus ietvju/celiņu apzīmēšanai ar name ir arī is_sidepath.

Tam ir bonusi (navigācija arī kājām / ar velo pareizi norādīs ielu nosaukumus), ir trūkumi (sarežģītāka uzturēšana).

Naming footpaths
I have been naming all the footpaths in my local area to the name of the street it runs parallel to. I have been doing this as the navigation program I use when walking is just “continue on path” (or no direction) when the continues around a corner onto another street or “turn right onto path” when the footpath is connected to the road via some random driveway, not useful information. Es tā noteikti neliktu name=* pagaidām. Es saprotu visus tos argumentus, ka vajag ielu piesaistīt. Bet celiņiem tomēr var būt reāli nosaukumi. Un kā consumeram zināt, ka tas nosaukums ir nevis celiņa nosaukums, bet pielikts, lai iela sakristu? Un ja ielai nav nosaukuma? Un ja ielai vairāki nosaukumi? Un ja ietve gar 2 ielām? Un ja iela sazarojas ar vienu nosaukumu? Un ko ar ielām ar sadalītiem braukšanas virzieniem? Un kā ar atsevišķiem ietves gabaliņiem, kas pievienojas ielai kaut kur? Manuprāt, no datu lietošanas, tas ir galīgi nelietojami. Bet tas viss sarežģīti protams, tāpēc arī nekas nav izlemts. De facto arī nav standarta.

Ja ļoti vajag, tad jālieto semi de facto is_sidepath=yes (footway=sidewalk gan to automātiski ietver) un is_sidepath:of:name=* - tad vismaz ar nosaukumu konflikta nav. Citas problēmas paliek, bet tās vismaz var atrisināt ar laiku, ja tegs saskaņots.

Renderēšana protams nav tas pats svarīgākais, bet tas ļauj aizdomāties, vai consumeri vispār māk noteikt, kas ir nosaukums un kas ir "piesaistīšana" ielai.
