By the way, you mentioned you were using OsmAnd with CycleOSM layer, but that's a raster layer isn't it? I haven't really looked through everything recently, but OsmAnd didn't have a cycle-dedicated rendering with vector stuff. And for mapping I find that I need more stuff than raster can show/zoom.
Yes and yes.
But I use two profiles (selector in the top left corner, don't know exact name): raster cycleosm one for bicycle navigation during leisure trips for on longer distances, and usual vector one on shorter trips dedicated to OSM.
It's probably not the most "effective" setup, but it's what works for me.
Yeah, I have the same, but even switching that becomes a chore over long distances when all I want is to quickly compare map to reality and leave a note. Oh well, may be some day.
I also frequently encounter some strange situation when switching back from cycle profile to OSM one causes latter to not show anything except for notes.
I've also played around with some cycling styles. I don't recall what I did exactly, or where I get it, but i basically showed cycling profile closer to what OpenCycleMap shows.
Didn't love it, since there were less important cycling-specific details than on cycleOSM, but might be a reasonable compromise for you, since you note a lot on the way.
I only know that you can enable cycle routes, which makes everything a noisy mess. I haven't tried any existing custom cycle styles.
@HellMap , Style in OsmAND I used is this one: https://osmand-rendering.github.io/CycloRoute/index_EN.html
Had to do some searching, including installing osmand on a fresh phone, to find what it was =)
And I might give it a second try, after seeing how snappy it is compared to cycleosm tiles.
Also, maybe let's extract this into a separate thread?

I reinstalled this style on clean osmand, and will give it a try.
I kinda miss surface encoding of cycleOSM, but it's more important for me on prep stage, which I usually do on computer anyway, than on the go.
Also, interesting thing: it works significantly better in cycle profile, than in general one. Not sure if it's order of object rendering or what, but I thing to keep in mind if you try.
